Update, 3-11-15:
Crystal is in her new foster home and doing super! This sweet girl was returned after a few weeks from her adopted family because an alpha female dachshund at the home continued to want to attack her. Crystal was an angel according to adopter, but had to return for the safety of all. Thus, we are fortunate to have her at our home to foster. She is doing great with our three dachshunds as well as with our neighbor cat. Thus we can change her unknown status with cats to good. She just looks at him, but no issues at all. Crystal is timid due to her past life, but she is very loving and happy to sit in your lap. A dog bed, your bed or a crate is fine for her for sleeping-she is not picky. She is housebroken and walks super on a leash. I think Crystal would made a great pet to a couple with no small children due to timid personality or a single person who wants a beautiful best friend. No doubt you will fall in love with her and she you in no time. Meet Crystal ... isn?t she BEAUTIFUL?!?! Crystal is a piebald doxie. Needless to say you don?t see many piebald dachshunds! Crystal has been in her foster home for two weeks now. She was very skittish in the beginning, but is learning the routine and is less nervous now that she knows what to expect. Her foster mom calls her a ?thinker? and very smart, too! When Crystal first arrived she would lie in her bed and observe what the four other dogs in the house were doing. Once she figured out the system, she started to join in. Now she knows her spot for being fed, she knows that after eating the leash goes on and we go for a walk. She knows when foster mom leaves the house, all dogs go to their beds in the doggy room and get a treat. She has even figured out that the BIG bed is neat, too! Last night was her first to sleep all night in the BIG bed with her foster mom and the rest of the hounds. Until now, she has been perfectly happy to sleep on a comfy blanket in her crate in the bedroom. Crystal was a puppymill dog in her past life, but luckily for Crystal, she was allowed in the breeder?s home with 3 other dogs some of the time. That helps explains why she is housebroken and gets along so well with other dogs. Crystal is a ?follower? so she has learned to walk perfectly on a leash when Crystal and her foster sibs go for a walk together. Foster mom is still working with Crystal walking one-on-one. For this reason, Crystal?s foster mom would love to see her in a home with another dog to make her transition to your home go more smoothly. She also would prefer a fenced area for Crystal. She doesn?t need a big yard, just a small secure area where she can go out and do her business without having to be on a leash.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate. We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35 once to transport the dog to an approved quarantine facility and then a second fee of $50 to get the dog out of quarantine after two days. The quarantine is a New Hampshire requirement for any animal imported into the state. We cannot negotiate or waive these fees as they are expenses to AADR. To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
